No slot machines will be installed on tracks. (2006-04-06)

Wednesday, April 5 House of Representatives in Boston banned the bill designed to allow each of the Massachusetts' state's ailing dog and horse tracks to install up to 2,000 slot machines. According to the bill’s supporters, it could help improve the economical situation at the tracks, as slots machines would bring great amount of money and, as a result, protect racetrack jobs like horse trainers and groomers. Now the track workers are afraid the tracks will be closed and they will lose their jobs. However, critics of the bill say that “social cost of expanded gambling outweighed the benefits”. They are supported be the animal rights and anti-gambling groups, who stress the negative effects of gambling on families.
